Solar Translucent Awnings
State College, PA - This awning’s main function is as a more efficient electrical energy-generating bi-directional solar panel, taking advantage of possibly at least 20% more solar gain due to refraction off of the white-washed walls on structures whose main walls face due south.
Secondarily, it is mounted 1/3 higher than the window length and at a 33° angle stretching out ~1/3 the length of the windows below, affording a near perfect passive summer cooling and winter heat gain combo for the customer at the 40° latitude.
It is so architecturally pleasing and fits in so well that this type of installation often escapes notice that it serves as a fully functioning energy-producing system.*
